Bethune-Cookman
promises to take better care of cemetery
DAYTONA BEACH — Bethune-Cookman College, accused by state officals of
mismanaging an indigent cemetery, has agreed to take better care of the
burial ground, according to a settlement a judge approved last week.
Officials with the college and the state Department of Banking and
Finance, which regulates cemeteries, agreed to the settlement because
inspectors realized that the historically black college had been operating
Sunset Memorial Park as a charity. 7/31/02
Banks
and insurance
The state regulates the banking and insurance industries in the interest
of the public, not for the convenience of the industries or of the
politicians. People deserve to have them insulated from political
influence.
