Rice to W

Update on Rice for Peace campaign

About a week ago I sent out an e-mail about a rice for peace protest. I am trying to send this to the same set of folks who were on that early e-mail list to send you an update.

The response to this campaign has been unbelievable. I have been inundated with e-mails, phone calls and letters from folks across the country

from every denomination. Clearly people are longing for a way to be heard! I give thanks for that response.

However, we have received a call from a postal inspector who said that some people have not packaged the rice correctly; it is spilling out of envelopes and frightening postal workers. (This despite the fact that I handed my envelope to a postal worker in a plain letter envelope and she said it would be okay.) At any rate, they have asked that we try to tell people to take the following steps to make sure our message gets through without frightening postal workers.

1. Mail the rice in padded envelopes or boxes only.

2. Write your name and return address on the envelope.

3. Write "Rice for Peace - Don't attack Iraq - Feed your Enemies" on the outside of the envelope.

Please share this information with your e-mail friends. Let's see if we can replicate the information chain.

Also, there is now a website where you can go for updates on the campaign. Check out www.riceforpeace.org

Reread the story of the persistent widow in Luke 18 and take heart! Here's to our God-given creativity and persistence. Let us continue in our

pesky ways until we are heard!
