Sprint erroneously cut off services to our server from 11am August 19th to 1pm Aug 20th.  Our apologies for any inconvenience that may have caused.  Email is coming in again, and we'll be getting the posts up as soon as we can.  However, we got 500+ viruses today, double yesterday's count, and this is slowing down our posting.

8/16/03
We're busy working on a new format for WhoseFlorida.  We hope to roll it out in October, and we think it will be easier to read and navigate.  In time we hope to move all the existing pages to the new format.   The new format will be data base driven and easier to maintain.  We're also looking to expand our regional pages, and to get more reporters in Tallahassee and around the state - but more on this later.
Thanks for hanging in there with us over the last year and helping us through some rough spots with your donations, and for continuing to send us your stories and reports.
(.... more)

12/25/02
If you've sent us something to be posted in the last two weeks, and haven't seen it posted please resubmit it.  Files are being moved to a new system and recent submissions may have been overlooked in the transition. Sorry about this...

11/15/02- WE'RE BACK
I'd love to say I'm refreshed from the vacation, but I couldn't relax.  Everywhere, there were reminders.  There's no escaping it.  Bullshit Reigns.  Propaganda everywhere I look.  More and more I feel like I'm slipping into a nightmare -- Posters, slogans, people all around me wandering in a daze, Rush... Rush to War ... War for Peace...
A friend sent me this quote:

Hermann Goering's Quote On War And The People
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."
--Goering at the Nuremberg Trials

So we're back.  And we need your support.

If you sent in a post during the last week, bear with us... it may be a few days before we catch up.  Thanks...

11/9/02 - Gone Fishing

Well folks, we've been going full-tilt-boogie since Feb 2001, and I've been at it all day, most every day for the last 6 months.  My goal from the beginning was to establish a resource center for information about our state government that was not otherwise available, or info posted briefly in the news and then lost in archival limbo.  I think that with your help, we have been relatively successful.  And I thank you for that.

But I'm burnt out - so I'm taking some time off to regroup and think about what's coming next.   This has been a tremendous effort - way too much for one person to keep up, even working at it full-time.

Our original goal was to have as much information available as possible for the Service First debate in 2001, then for the election on Nov 5, 2002.  We wanted to be able to clearly demonstrate the misdirection we felt the State was going in. We wanted to show where it was going awry and how we could get back on track. I believe we did that.  Nonetheless, JEBush won a clear, decisive victory.

What does that mean for whoseflorida?  Is it time to rally behind the Governor?  Do we continue to play the role of "loyal opposition?"  Was the election really a mandate for JEBush's policies?  Or do the people still not know what's really going on with their state government?

I may try and put up a questionnaire to solicit your ideas about the direction whoseflorida.com should go next.  Please continue sending your posts, I'll get them posted - but the News Clips, and other regularly scheduled and time consuming duties will be on hold till I get back. What we'd like to know is:

What on whoseflorida is most useful to you?
how often and why do you visit?
what do you do with the information you find here?
any suggestions for the future?
any funding or reorganization ideas?
also any ideas about questions to include in the questionnaire

Hope to hear from you soon. More later - some time next week...
All the best
WF

10/23/02 - Back in the saddle... trying to catch up on all the posts that came in while I was away.  If you sent us something that hasn't been posted and if you think it's still relevant, please send me a reminder.  Thanks for bearing with us, and for helping out.  WF

10/16/02 - Posting to whoseflorida may be irregular over the next two weeks due to a family emergency.  It's possible that some folks may be picking up the slack during my absence.   But if not, I hope to be able to resume regular operations in a few weeks.  Stay tuned, and please make use of the valuable information posted in the archives.  Any questions about why we need a "regime change"  in Florida, will be quickly put to rest with a quick read through some of the pages posted in the JEB pages (or throughout the entire site). All the best, WF.

7/15/02 -- News clips have been archived by topic from May 1, 2002 through July 10, 2002. We'll try and keep them as current as possible. Go to Table of Contents for the topical links.  Clips are archived by date from April 2001 to present go to News Archive for links.

7/2/02 -- There was a power outage this afternoon and evening - several truncated form submissions were received.  If you submitted a response during this time, please resubmit.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Printing instructions:

If you’re having trouble printing pages from WhoseFlorida, it may be because your browser is set to print background colors and images along with the text. You want to have the printer only print the text. The following instructions are for Internet Explorer 4 and 5 but similar options may be available on other browsers.
  1. Click on the TOOLS option on the top line of the browser so the drop down box appears.
  2. Click INTERNET OPTIONS on the drop down box
  3. Click the ADVANCED tab
  4. Scroll down to the PRINTING option
  5. The checkbox in front of "Print background colors and images" should be UN-checked (no check mark in the box)
  6. Click OK

Removing this check mark will convert all printouts of web pages to a white background with black text.  It will not prevent images from printing.

If this doesn't work for you, the "copy and paste" method will let you print the text you want. Just highlight the text you want to print, click COPY (the icon, or COPY in the EDIT drop down box) and then just PASTE into any word processing or text-editing program. Then print.

If you can't see the text after it's been pasted, highlight the area of the paste and try changing the font color so that it will be visible on your page.

If you still are having problems, let us know. Thanks  WF
